I currently shoot with a 7-D and own the following lens:
70-200 L 4.0 USM IS
24-105 L 4.0 USM IS
10-22 EF-S USM 3.5-4.5

If you could add 1 and only 1 new lens to this collection, what would it be and why? Only suggest Canon lens (or,their equivalents).
I shoot everything from MACRO to outdoors.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. I appreciate them.
Dan

I think I would add the 400/5.6L to that list. You don't have anything long. The 400/5.6 is very light, you can have it dangling around your neck all day and not notice any weight. It is also pretty cheap, but a great performer.
Because of it's light weight, it is a good lens for birds in flight without the need for a tripod.

I would definitely add the 400mm, f5.6 'L' to that list especially since you have the 7D. Fantastic bird combination. And this is from a guy who NEVER recommends lenses. I'll make an exception this time.

I have both the 100 macro and the 400. I use the macro far more than the 400, but I like that kind of photography more. I guess it depends on what you think you will use most.

Since I shoot the 7-D with a crop factor of 1.6, my 200mm is actually 320mm. I appreciate the long of the 400, but I personally think I'm long enough at 320mm and I could always get a 1.4 converter for a lot less $$ and still stay below the 5.5 f-stop.
I like the idea of the 100 Macro as I have heard a lot of good things about it.
My only question is, will it do other things beyond (in addition to) shooting high quality macro? If so, how else would I use it?
Thanks lots!
Dan

I mainly use mine for macro, but you can use it for other things too. Read this:

One question: Do you shoot more macro or outdoors?

If it is macro, I suggest Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM.
If it is outdoors, I suggest Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

I own both. Both of them are great sharp L lenses, with excellent image and build quality.

First congratulations on some nice glass. Super wide to as long as you seem to need. I saw a piece from one of the Canon-Pros talking of the very thing. I can't find the piece now. It was extolling the virtues of the RED MAC. For me if price is not a consideration the IS would be a great feature. One area that would be of great benefit is the portrait. The 70-200 is good for that. I have the T2i and 60D and would shoot your glass plus the Mac. "JR"

I would add the Canon 300mm 4.0 lens. The lens is very sharp and has image stabilization. While I do like the 400mm 5.6 lens for birds in flight, I find the 300mm to be a great "walk in the woods" lens for shooting wildflowers, small mammals, and birds. I have the 100mm macro lens but actually prefer the 300mm for most closeup shots of flowers. It would be wise to evaluate the lenses you are considering before you purchase. There are many online sources to rent lenses, e.g. www.lensgiant.com
