As I walked down Marcos Highway, which is teaming with traffic and Jeepney's belching clouds of smoke from their exhaust I found a man who had made a small place to stay on the sidewalk.
I don't speak Tagalog, but I stopped and smiled and motioned to my camera and he nodded yes. So I took his portrait with him squatting next to a large concrete light pole and me on my knees to be eye level.
I have worked with this image for a number of hours going back and forth between low and high contrast and decided that he deserved as much dignity and respect as I could show in his picture. I'm loading the image for you to download and look at 100% to see that the ravages of time and a hard life have left their mark on this man.

Nice overall job, from the sighting, to the permission, posing, shooting, and processing.
I like it. I especially appreciate the respect you showed for him. I think it shows in the pic.

Yep! The comment reminds me of my Grandfather, who had a dairy in Wewoka, OK. All my relatives on my Mother's side are Okies. LOL!
My better half is a Dentist (trust me when I say dentist do not make the kind of money here they do in the States) and I didn't know you could pull so many teeth like they do here. It is cheaper than having a crown done and the locals don't care.
The really sad thing about this man, other than being poor in a 3rd world country, is his addiction to alcohol. A guy walked by who spoke English and said the man really wanted a Fifth of Local Brandy, which is a little over $2.00 and is 25% alcohol.
Jerry and NC.... thank you for your comments. It is interesting in that I keep looking for pretty or happy subjects. On the streets here most people show an unbelievable amount of stress.
