Help with identifying small grey circles

Can someone please tell me what these small grey circles are. Most are at the top center. In all, I count eight. Here are the details- Canon 20D, 50mm Kit Lens, 9am, f/10, ISO 800, 1/1250-Shot in Manual mode.
The shot was to check the colors. These dots do not appear in all my photos, very few as a matter of fact. I have made copies of other photos and the dots will be in one but not in the copy. I don't have a clue as to what they are. I should mention that I am new to digital photography. Bought this camera on ebay in April. This is my first digital camera. Thanks, Seamus

Dust on your sensor is causing these.

Hey, Seamus, they're there, but more noticeable in some shots. Aperture, light backgrounds, even post processing will make them more noticeable. Here's a shot where I didn't notice the spots until I tonemapped to bring out the details, and it did bring out all the details, including the dust. Once I knew they were there, I could go back through my archives and tell exactly when the sensor got dirty. :(

Only see 8 spots? Now THIS is a dirty sensor!

Sarge, I'll do just like the manual says. I happen to have one of those rubber blowers exactly like the one pictured. I did take my laptop down to the Chevron station, borrowed their air hose and blew all the dust off my keyboard, worked great! I won't do that with my camera. Thanks

Photograph a piece of white paper after you clean the sensor, with a sensor cleaning kit. Or, take it to a local camera repair and have them clean it for you.
