Panoramic tough lesson

Thought I would try my hand at a panoramic while vacationing at Grand Canyon. Took an 8 shot pan (here's where the tough lesson comes in) horizontal. Only after returning home did I realize I should have taken them vertical. Why?? I needed more vertical height so I could get more than this. Live and learn I guess. Sad part is I won't be going back there anytime soon to correct my mistake.

By the way, I'm posting this small file on purpose, so don't look for a download. Sigh :-(

I started doing pano's in portrait mode some time ago and it really is much better. Great lesson for everyone to learn.

My Nikon p510 does a nice job with 180 & 360 in-camera panoramas either vertical or horizontal. Nikon also provides a panorama software but I have not tried that yet.

You still have a very nice panorama there. :-)

That's great advice for anyone who has a compact that can do pano because they're so easy to hold vertically.

From the "little" you've allowed us to see :) it's very pretty! Next time you'll be ready to tip that camera to vertical.

I'm not likely to make the same mistake twice :) Especially if I drive 27 hours again to get there.

You have a stunning pano with the eye drawn to the mesas in the center. Perhaps if you had taken the pano in portrait you would have lost that impact and the eye would have been drawn to the foreground instead.
