This weekend we will explore night photography. Just because the sun has gone down does not mean the camera gets put away. Night time affords unique opportunities to explore shadows and lighting that is unlike that of daytime. As with most of the challenges I have hosted in the past this is an exercise in observing the things around you. For this challenge let us see how much you have learned this past year utilizing all that has been taught. Put some thought into what you are shooting and let the reader know what made you photograph the subject and how you did it.

This will be my last hosting of a challenge for the next 6 months to a year. After returning from Denver a letter that I was expecting yet hoping would have better news arrived and I will have to be concentrating less on photography and more living my life. All future plans have been put on hold at this time. I will say that it has been fun and I have enjoyed my experiences with all of you as well as seeing your work and getting to meet some of you in person. My best wishes to you all. Keep practicing and above all, always have fun.

High winds, as you can see in the branches and also I had no weight on my tripod and it was shivering in the wind.

This one was taken a few weeks ago while I was practicing long exposures.

The second photo is from my archives. My two little grandsons love anything to do with space. On this night they were searching the night sky for Venus and the found it! How exciting this was for them.

The third picture is an old favourite of mine. The train station at Charny, Quebec taken through the train window.

Here are a few more to keep you going. All of these shot including the ones posted prior, were taken with in an hour and the PP took about 30 min for the series. I used a tripod, through the lens metering, at 400 ISO. The most difficult thing to deal with was the different lighting. Some was incandescent and others were mercury vapor. All was corrected as well as could be in Lightroom.

Showing a few errors.

PP a bit in LR, but my errors stem from the blurred lights of the city.

If you draw two near parallel lines with which at 10' there is a 1/8'' distance, whereas you were at 0'' at the start, your error shall become larger as the distance increases. This is what happens with camera vibration, especially pronounced at wide angle. Even though I used a remote and a tripod, the winds did cause a minimal vibration which blurred the city lights.

Another error, large spans of water are level so when doing those types pf shots, LR gives you the option of repairing tilts.

Be back much later, hopefully with tonight's shots inthe dark
