Wireless shutter release for D7100

I am considering a Yongnuo RF-603 N3 2.4GHz Wireless Flash Trigger/Wireless Shutter Release Transceiver Kit for my Nikon D7100. The information available says it works on the D7000, I would think is it compatible with the D7100 too? Some reviews say the onboard flash can't pop up when mounted on the flash shoe. Can any UHH users clarify this?

Thanks!

I have a similar setup by Cowboy Studios. With the transmitter mounted on the hotshoe, the popup flash cannot popup. If I recall correctly, I think you set the camera to Commander mode so it does not try to raise the flash.

See what the more experienced flashers among us have to say.

I use an RF-603N on my D7000 & D7100. Works great every time, unlike some others I have used. The receiver mounts on the hot shoe, so yes, it will prevent the 'pop up' flash from operating.

I use Promaster but same set up. It can mount on flash shoe but doesn't have to. You can let it hang or Gaff tape it to tripod so you can use flash if you wish or mount flash if you need it. That's if you just want to trigger the camera.

I just got the Cowboy studio set that Jerry is talking about and they work great for $29.00. There cheap plastic but they work, that's all I care about. Thanks Jerry for putting me onto them.

Not completely sure what you are trying to do. I have a D7000 and a D5000 plus a Nikon SB 700 flash. I also have a Nikon ML-L3 remote shutter release. I can trigger the shutter on either the D7000 front and back, and from the front of the D5000 (if you want to be in the photo)with the ML-L3, and in the commander mode on the D7000 I can trigger the SB 700 off camera.

I want it to be wireless and have a range of more than just a few feet. Thanks!

I use 4 of these triggers and the only problem i have with them is, on my D90 they only safely sync up to 160th sec,, at 200th sec banding is evident, this is a shame as they are very cheap so dont break the bank,,

I think the Nikon ML-L3 wireless remote is good for 30' and sells for $20-25. I have my D7000 on a tripod outside on my deck and pre focused of a bird feeder or branch. When a subject lands I can trigger through double pain door walls. I had previously bought the remote cord, but it is too short and I had to be by the door wall. With the ML-L3 I can sit in my recliner and trigger my shutter from across the room.

Do you have to click it once to wake up the camera and then again to snap the picture?

I use these on my D600 & D7000. These triggers for the money are great. They can be used as flash triggers or camera triggers. Work as advertised.

I think you have to set the camera 'on' for an extended period. But I will try triggering the camera twice tomorrow and see if it works. For $20 you can not go wrong.
