Susan, I've never seen pictures as good as yours of a hawk's struggle for his lunch! Yuk! Not a meal many would prefer! LOL

Thanks so much for all of your encouraging comments on the photos I posted on the Hawk and Snake battling. I just happened to see the hawk on a pole while pulling out of my road and when I realized that it had prey I stopped to take a shot -what a surprise when I saw what it was! I kept shooting until there was a clear winner - the Hawk.

I didn't consider the quality of these shots to be good enough to send to any publications, but after all of your kind comments, I will probably submit them to one or two. I really appreciate the suggestions of places to submit the photos and it will be fun to try.

I am looking forward to posting more photos on Ugly Hedgehog.

On second thought, I think the snake is the Western Yellow-bellied subspecies of the North American Racer. The range of the black racer does not extend west of the Rockies.
