Hello all. Based on other comments in other threads, I thought the Tokina was going to be Tack Sharp.
These examples are straight JPG out of the camera, no post. All were aperture prefered @ f11. Shot on a tripod with remote shutter release to eliminate camera shake. Image stabilization turned off. Looks to me like the "cheap 18-55" has the best DOF focus. I'll send this Tokina back unless one of you more knowledgable photographers can suggest the possible error on my part.
All input appreciated.
Tokina 11-16 hyper focus @ 2.5ft for 13mm
Tamron 28-300 hyper focus @ 12ft for 28mm
Sony 18-55 kit hyper focus @ 12 ft for 26mm

Hello
EXIF data for shot with Tokina is 12mm ,so Hyperfocal distance 2.13 ft .
at what focal lengths?for tokina 11/16 everything should be sharp from one foot onwards.try f/8.

I sure get great shots with mine, never without my tokina 11/16
I have an 11-16 on a D80 Nikon. It is tack sharp and one of my favorites. Perhaps a defective lens? Try another one on your camera to see if any difference.
My 11-16 on a D300 is fantastic. Sharper than I really expected, near and far. Love it. Maybe just a bad one. Try another and see if that helps.
Each lens has a sweet spot. Like someone else suggested, try f/8
What were you focusing on?
"hyper focus" is a misnomer, and I think that you actually are wanting to refer to "hyper focal distance". All the hyper-focal distance means is that stuff from the sharpest focus to infinity will be within some bounds of sharpness, NOT that all planes will be "tack sharp". So if you focus at 2.4 feet, far away features will not be as sharp as they would be at sharp focus. That's basic physics. Also basic physics is that absolute lens resolution is limited by diffraction. The smaller f-stop, the less resolution ANY lens can deliver. That is an essential trade off between resolution and depth of field. Your Tokina will be far sharper at F4 or 5.6 than at F 11.
Whoa, fellas....can we take a step back here and ask how you 'objectively' compare sharpness between a 12mm pic and a 26mm pic? Not to mention that without the originals downloaded and enlarged, it's nearly impossible for my feeble eyes to see any differences. Maybe you youngins have some super vision. Regardless, if we're talking about ultimate resolving power (isn't that what you mean by 'Tack Sharp') the shots above don't provide a meaningful indication. Just my 2 cents.
