Black-bellied Whistling Ducks

As many of us know, bird identification is sometimes very difficult. Not so with the BBWD: black bellies, orange-red bills, prominent white eye ring, few differences between male and female, no seasonal or breeding changes in color, high-pitched whistle in flight. Unmistakable.
Also of interest: "Tree nest is placed next to herbaceous plants so ducklings have soft landing spot when they jump from nest at 1 day old." (Field Guide to Birds) The jump from the nest for our children can take somewhat longer.
