Although Arlo Guthrie was my inspiration for the title, Johnny Cash sang a number of songs referencing railroads. For all I know, he may have covered "The City of New Orleans".

I would say that MTShooter was referring to Johnny Cash's affection for railroads. If you saw any of his old TV shows you would know a segment of the program involved railroading and a lot of his songs were about trains. I thing this would fit Arlo Guthrie also since the thread title, "Magic Carpet Made of Steel", is from his song "The City of New Orleans".
