I can only shoot five seconds of video before the recording stops on its own. I have a 16GB card that is NOT full...?

RTM (Read The Manual)! Obviously a gremlin got ahold of your camera and messed with the menu settings, than activated the Video Snapshot mode without understanding what they were doing. If you watch a movie or TV program carefully you may notice it is composed of short duration scenes flicking from one subject to another and from one viewpoint to another, never lasting more than a few seconds. Then they take all these clips and edit them together into a interesting show. Of course if you want to make a typical amateurish boring home movie you point your lens at something, push the record button and leave it on until everyone gets bored with the process. make sure you zoom in and out a lot and give vocal directions while recording. Video Snapshot is a neat option from the folks at Canon to enable you to put together a professional looking production if you want to. Disabling it can be found on page 153 of the latest T3i manual.

Well, I wish the Gremlin would leave my dang camera alone. Obviously, I asked here because I don't want to read the manual... but thanks anyway. I am sure that I will be able to figure it out on my own.

Well, to be honest- Not sure where it is and I needed a quick answer, but isn't that what this forum is all about? I have been on other sites that seem a lot less condescending and a lot more helpful... I wanted information and I would gladly share with others if I knew the answers...

It's right here:

Once again scroll to page 153, they even provide pictures for those that were home schooled.
Now I don't own a T3i so I would have to spend a lot of time reading the manual for YOUR camera then write a description of which button to push and dial to turn for someone who otherwise can't be bothered with initiative.

You can almost always depend on us for help, but let me tell you how a lot of us di it. When you can't find your manual or are in a hurry and ask a question like you did, a lot of us go to the library of manuals we keep of file, not because we own or owned the camera, but because we want to be able to help you quickly. I currently have about two dozen manuals and a half dozen catalogs, all in a PDF folder, just for such a purpose. Maybe after you have time to download and read your manual, you could consider maintaining such a library of cameras similar to yours to assist others. I'm glad another member was able to provide you the address to download a manual; I sincerely hope you found your answer.

You must have a 'fast' card for video.
Standard cards can't load quick enough and you get a full buffer.
Look for type 10, 45mb/second cards
I use SanDisk, never had a problem.
Hope this helps

I had the same problem. You need a fast card, not merely one with big memory.

Thanks again. Its NOT that I don't have the initiative. I guess I just imagined that people would have the answer of the top of their head... and I never thought to look online for the manual. Now I know!

no, I never would ask that. I am a Southern Gal and used to people being very curteous and willing to help...
