playing with light......
....wanted to see how this effect would work, so just set up a quick random assortment of objects ,....in a pitch black room, with camera set on F8, 30 sec. shutter, iso 200, and tried to paint the light in with a small flashlight. It's not the best composition, but that wasn't the goal. I think I need a better drop cloth ( obviously !)....and a more direct and smaller light beam. This could lead to some nice shots though. Just wanted to share my experment with the "gang".
light painting is all in the brush....and I need a better one ... ha ha
I did just the same thing in a cave. I set the camera to 30 seconds and my brother, niece and I painted the walls with flashlights. It turned out eeehh.
I'll post it...
You can see my brother, and niece off to the right a bit.
I like the idea, I just think that more detail will help out, like from a smaller light or maybe different colors.

You might find this interesting when it comes to painting with light. It is done by RIT students and staff along with volunteers. RIT is a technology college near where I live and they do one of these photos every year. Go to
http://www.rit.edu/cias/bigshot/all_photos_gallery/index.htm to see the photos they have done over the last several years.
WXXI public television in Rochester, N.Y. did a program on this project a few months ago.
