I have a Canon XSI and the memory card door does not latch closed. - Right now, I tape it closed as there is an interlok that prevents the camera from operating unless the door is closed.

Have you called Canon tech support? I have found them to be phenomenal. If there isn't a quick fix, you can probably send it for repair...and their service is extremely quick.

I would contact Canon's part service and make sure the part is available. Hopefully the door itself is chipped and not the piece on the body side that's damaged. Next contact a "real" camera store and ask if they do any repairs in house or can refer you to a repair person. If it's the door that's broken I would order two while your at. Parts become "no longer available" these days almost when the camera hits the shelf. If the camera is anything like my D60 it's probably just a matter of removing the bottom cover, slipping out the hinge pin and putting the new one on. 5min. operation. If you try this watch the screws you remove as some may be different lengths so be sure the proper screw goes back where it came from. Also slowly lift off the bottom plate and peek under to make sure are no wires or flex circuit connections between the bottom cover and body. I was in the camera repair business for about 23 years if I can be of any help.

The card door can be repaired fairly inexpensively but it will require disassembly to do so. I don't recommend this as a user serviceable problem as it is very easy to damage the camera if you don't know exactly what you are doing. I can however recommend a repair service that does excellent work at very reasonable prices. www.discountcamerarepair.com.
