Just a suggestion: any time you make a rule change espically one that can get people banned send out an e-mail.

It seems sad that we even need this rule, this should be common sense.

Er, wait... I guess if everything were that obvious, we wouldn't need any rules at all. ;)

I think that the rule makes the site of little value to those of us who want assistance from other artistic individuals. If they see a way to make an image better I love to have them show me their idea. If they have to wait for me to give them permission the spontaneous inspiration is lost. If people want Ooos and Aaahs about their images plus a pat on the back then Facebook or some other social media site is where they should be. If its on this site seems like it there to learn from others and they can change it and repost it back to the thread so everyone can share in the learning experience.

The idea is to control folks that inundate a topic of other folks with unrequited pictures and remakes. If you want to post, ask unless the topic creator asks you make changes. Personally I always ask before posting a modification and try to explain (ah!) How I got to the end product. Just go for it is rather rude, especially when the remakes are not explained and/or hideous!!!

It would seem easy enough for anyone who would like others to do PP work on his photo to simply invite others to do so. Then there would be no need to wait. It is one thing to send a PM suggesting certain PP, but quit another to just alter another's work no matter how much one thinks it should be done. We all have our own style preferences. For instance, I hate tattoos, but there sure are a lot of folk into that now days. I see what some of those folk call art, or photographic style. It makes me cringe. But, I guess they would not really like what I consider good art, or good photography, much less what I prefer in PP.

If it is ok for others to work on your photograph just note that it is ok when you post it. Then you don't have to wait for someone to ask. I like seeiing what others can do, and look at it as another way to learn. But I do feel it is rude to do so without asking!!!

My first concern about the new rule was how was this communicated to all the existing Ugly Hedgehog users. I only found about this new rule because a friend sent me a link to this tread. I believe other photo forums has a means that allows the owner of the photo to control the upload of changes by other people via a check box as part of their picture thread. Unless you do something like this, you are going to be policing this rule all the time. For me, I will most likely stop looking and commenting on the photos in the Picture forum. You guys also need to consider of having a separate forum for just posting photos and another for critiques. Arnold

I updated the Pictures section's rules, and added this clause:

Quote:
- Please do not edit and re-upload other people's pictures without their explicit permission. In other words, you may not open someone's topic, download an image, edit it (that includes adjusting settings, cropping, adding/removing visual elements, etc.), re-post it, and say "here is a version of your photo that I like better" unless they specifically ask for it.

This goes into effect immediately.
If you mess with other people's photos without them asking, you'll get banned.

not obvious to many, but a very good idea on several levels, copyright, disrespect, over stepping, bla bla

good discussion point
