Is there such a thing as an electronic monitor that you could plug into the camera to review images in the field ( easy to carry - not a laptop ! ) - battery operated - screen size about 5X7 for about $150 or less ?? Would also like to plug a memory device into this monitor for showing images to friends, family ect. .....

this "gizmo" sounds close to what you are talking about.

The other avenue would be getting an "eye-fi" memory card that will transmit to a wireless device ( net-book, smart-phone, etc). What's neat about using a wireless device off camera, is you can get software to actually control the camera from the wireless device, and shoot remotely.

I would like to find something to do the same thing. I wonder if a tablet with an sd slot would work..I think you would have to take your card out of your camera and insert into tablet but, this would be a lightweight apperatus to see your results faster than going home to your computer, better than the camera screen.

the first suggestion with the link is actually a video monitor designed to be hooked up to a camcorder so that the videographer can film and see the images as he films. I'm not entirely certain that it's compatible with a digital still camera. It might work with the newer ones that also shoot videos. Since the monitor's main goal is to allow images to be displayed through them and separating the camera from the operator, it should work with stills and videos in theory... I'll have to explore this myself to see what shakes loose. You can hook up your camera to a TV and see what's happening, why not an external monitor? Thanks for this topic and question. Great answers, great ideas...

I stand corrected. The link and the monitor being sold IS actually a "DSLR Monitor." Now this is definitely something I'm interested in. THANKS!
