We were out doing some scouting today prior to flower counts. The Small White Lady Slippers were prime.

The photo of the red wing blackbird was just so cute I had to post it.
aAl photos were unedited. I am just too busy getting ready for the next adveture up north this weekend.

Enjoyable photos - even the caterpillars, though I know they do damage. What a tiny lady slipper; don't know if I've ever seen that variety. Have fun on your next excursion!

Awesome Jerold! Where did you find these? I've been wanting to get a photo of the Minnesota State Flower for a long time. Lucky you. What part of Minnesota did you find them in, if you don't mind my asking. I am so jealous :)

These are not the state flower, the showy lady slipper but rather the Small White lady slipper which can be less hard to find.
These particular plants were found near Hayfield, Minnesota. Last year we surveyed thousands near Windom, mn I think some are located near Alexandria. most of them are at semi unknown locations and no one is talking unless you are in the DNR or the rare plant society.
You are not too far from the White fringed prairie Orchid in the Crookston area.

Viewing opportunities are short. less than a week of bloom.
We are heading out to count again on Thursday. If you are in the area, you can get a tour.

Okay, I googled, and educated myself  Still, those are beautiful blooms. Unfortunately I have to work all week or I'd love to come and count the small white Lady Slippers. Have fun
