i am using a canon 1d mark iv with a canon 300mm 2.8 mk 2 lens and I'm getting what looks a bit like lens flare? this only seems noticeable when i take pictures with sky in them, i have my lens hood on and it doesn't matter what direction i shoot i still have the problem and its in exactly the same place, this is the only lens i have that fits this body at the min so i cant try a different lens but i have tried the lens on another body but dont have the problem also the higher iso the worse it is any advice would be greatly appreciated as its driving me nuts :(
Do you by chance have a filter on the lens? If so, do you get the same result with the filter removed? Agree that it looks like lens flare, but is very consistent on where it is, as if an outside influence is happening.
Got to agree with a possible filter issue based on the limited info provided, likely an internal misalignment. Remove it and try a shot, a filter in the holder is not necessary.

Looks like some kind of smudge on the lens or the filter, if you use one. Of course it also might be on the sensor which is a more serious problem. If you tried the lens on another body it could be a smudge on the sensor. Borrow a lens from someone and try a different lens on your body to narrow down the possibilities.

It may be something as simple as getting the sensor cleaned. Hope that solves your problem. Excellent equipment. Let us know what you discover and good luck.

thanks for the advice ill get it done and see what happens
I think MTShooter may be onto something with light leaking in. Maybe just a dumb test, but turn the camera upside down and both sides of vertical to see if the intruder follows the body? Maybe a different angle will give the lens a better or worse connection...
Contact Canon, I find their technicians are a wealth of information and very helpful. Gary
