As they are, I really like the story you're telling. No. 2 does it, for me with more impact.
But, I did a very quick and very light opening of the shadows with No. 1, and it gave me more mood. Perhaps that's because, in my opinion, b&w is more abstract.
Maybe it's a question of subjective meaning and, of course, viewers will differ.
Regardless, go to the head of the class with both of these

Pierre.

Yes, but it cost me I bought her (sorry ME) a Nikon P520 that I might let her use now and then. I also cooked her, her favourite dinner but as I do all the cooking I don't know if that helped. But it was a tagine dish so there wasn't too much washing up for her to do afterwards.

Breathtaking shots, CarlySue. Number two is the better of the two, only because it's lighter. I like number one, and that would be my pick for the wall. The only suggestion I might have would be to lighten the wall behind your subject just a tad in that first one. She's just a bit too hard to see, and a touch of silhouetting would bring her out better, but the idea here is dazzling.

If this isn't your best shot, it's sure one of them. And one of the very best I've seen here on UHH.

Superlative work.

thank you PierreH. #1 wasn't quite that dark on my monitor altho' I did want it dark and used a "soft focus" filter as I really wasn't into seeing all the finer details. I'd love to see what you did. carly

Thank you... and you be careful with all those tornadoes at your back, tibuljac. Sounds awfully scarey in your area.

WOW, Treepusher..you caught me speechless and no big words! Thank you so much for your encouragement, you know I appreciate your photo artwork.
I'm not sure I know how to do what you suggested. I could dodge & burn that area but not sure about "silhouetting". Tho' I wanted it dark (it was about the mood), it didn't seem to be quite this dark on my monitor.
