Ken Rockwell highly recommended this book among many others and I am glad that I happened across this one first at the used book store. Ansel is an incredibly articulate writer! The way he describes the process and emotional motivation behind the art of photography is beautifully poetic. I highly recommend this book to anyone at any level of photography. Ya know, this site needs a photography book club section so we could read books together and have open discussion. I think that would be great! Who's with me?!

I have several books by and about AA. For those interesting in history, there is none better than "The History of Photography" by Beaumont Newhall. It's the seminal work on the history of photography.
Many may be unaware that Ansel Adams studied as a classical pianist-- and made a career choice of photography over music. He was a true Renaissance man.

That sounds like a book I would like to read. Ansel Adams led a very interesting life. He's a very talented writer also.

That he was. One of his books is "
Examples, The Making of 40 Photographs", which is now on loan to a friend.
My tome on photographic history is, "
A New History of Photography", edited by Michel Frizot and published in 1998; 775 pages and VERY HEAVY!
So many books, so little time. Especially with a three year old. Lol

I was hoping someone would know how to do it. I'd be very interested. I bring up certain magazines issues on occasion but a separate forum sounds like a great idea.

Thanks for the tip. Just ordered it.
I'll just add that I also ordered a copy from ABE books after reading your post. But I paid a little more: $6.18 for a hard cover in good condition. I would say that all of Ansel Adams books are a good buy at this time. The reproductions are usually very good and since he died a relatively short time ago his material is declining in value but that will change as it thins out. But any price would be worth it for his books, ultimately.
