I am considering buying a nook or a kindle. I don't know much about them. I do know i want one that looks as close to real print as possible for reading books and i need it to be able to access wi-fi for checking email. Can anyone help me with which brand and model would be best and most economical and without having any data plan or xtra monthly fees. Thanks for any information

Your question equates to; Which should I buy, Canon or Nikon? The choice is yours, though I feel that the Kindle now has the edge in the tech department (I own the Nook, three years old)

The original kindle is the best reader, the epaper amazingly looks like real paper, the problem with it is that it is very poor at being an internet device. If you feel that your reader must double for reading emails etc then get the fire... but as a pure reader it is not nearly as good.

The Kindle Fire is heavy(I have one) but I think it is great .... If you get the Fire HD, get wifi and 4g .... Amazon charges $ 50 per YEAR for 4g .... great deal ..... the original was good for its time .... but .... you can't read in the dark ( you need that hang-on light)..... my wife just got the feather weight reader because it is backlighted .... the original is not ..... you probably are thinking ... who reads in the dark .... if your Kindle is backlit .... you will ..... also .... Amazon will be around to support the Kindle a lot longer tha Barnes & Noble ....

You may want to take a look at the Nexus 7. Most reviews are highly favorable and I love mine. Great for downloading ebooks and audiobooks and internet access is great. High screen resolution and nice photo capability. Easy to download kindle and nook aps so it will do virtually anything either of the others will do. It doesn't have a forward facing camera which is an issue for some and the shiny screen may be less easily read in direct sunlight. I haven't had problems that way. I bought the 32 GB version from Radio Shack for $250 and got $50. worth of store coupons along with it. Runs on one of, if not the latest, Android O.S. I'm basically ignorant on those more technical aspects. Whatever you get, good luck with it.

I have an iPad which is probably the most used electronic piece of equipment I have every used - including my camera. I have both nook and kindle apps downloaded, works with internet and email, listening to music, great for playing games or watching movies if you have Netflix or hulu. My friend just got an android tablet and hers will do all of these things also. I am a purist with books and an avid reader. I never thought that I would rather have a tablet than a book in my hand. However, the lighting is better, I can read places I never could before and you can change font size if you need too. Lots of free older books on Kindle too. The iPad is the best purchase I have ever made but the adobe issue has been a pain at times. I am ready to upgrade and am debating between new iPad and android bases myself. Either purchase, I believe you would be thrilled.

I just checked and found that FoxitReader Mobile will let you read .pdf files on your iPad.
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/products/mobilereader/ios/

I use Foxit Reader instead of Adobe reader on my PC and find it to be very useful and doesn't run into problems.
