When the country allows people who are educated in other countries to come here and work for tech companies, do they
have to pay SSI & medicare taxes? They are not here on a
permanent basis? I understand that Bill Gates states we should have about 180K coming here cause of the shortage of our citizens with needed education.

not so sure that the burden is not on us (as a nation) to stop pampering our kids and telling them that they are awesome and deserve everything... We are becoming a nation with a large sense of entitlement... Eventually those legal aliens will become americans and if they bring a better work ethic and stronger drive to our society it will become a different society.

Land of opportunity and we (as a nation) are letting our opportunities slip away into other hands...

I will always welcome a hard working law abiding neighbor on my street...

Just read an article about the worst graduation record at
11 public colleges. What has happened at the HS level?
My brother was a voracious reader and me and my sister had difficulties. My other sister became a 3rd grade teacher.

The young men are leaving school cause of costs, can't read,
write or do math.

Several years ago I took an online test for got 124 out of 160 on 40 questions. I asked some of the math questions to 3 young graduates from The Ukraine. They got them all. 2 men got only two of the correct answers.

Surely that is a reflection on the education system? This also applies to the UK where it appears the exam pass marks have been gradually reduced over the years.

Gates has created a number of programs to improve the education of our students. He has done more to elevate the level of learning in this country than our own government. The problem is the "no child left behind" attitude that everyone is equal and everyone is a winner. Don't keep score because the lossers will be upset. teachers used to follow a calling. Now they follow a pay check and a benefit program.

We have also placed higher education in the realm of the wealthy. A normal child has to submit to decades of debt in order to get a meaningful degree.
