I did a little research yesterday. Looked at the Canon Pro 9500 and 9000. Read the reviews and found alot depends on the type of paper you like to use. The 9500 uses pigment ink. Better for mat or satin paper. The 9000 uses dye based ink. Better for glossy paper. Since I like glossy that helped make my decision. As far as brands I haven't decided yet but, the type of ink will be the deal breaker. I have a Pixma MG8120. It uses dye based ink. The reason I bought it is it doesn't have to be connected to a computer. Makes nice copies.

Here is a follow up. I was looking at Craigs list in the Canon section this afternoon. Noticed a bunch of the Pro 9000's for sale. Most said new in box. I called a guy and he brought me his for $150.00. I asked why I saw so many on Craigs and he said he bought a T3i and got the printer for free as a promo.

So he gets it for free and you're going to pay him $150? I've got a 2003 Dodge pickup truck I'd let go for $40,000 if you'd like me to bring it over...

I have an Epson and have been extremely pleased with it. It is the 3800PRO model. I'm sure there are new models out as I've had mine for several years and have printed hundreds of beautiful print and have only replaced ink cartridges one time and still have ink left. Will print up to 17X22 inch prints with vibrant and sharp results. I use Lexjet and Epson Papers and have used Staples paper for cheap prints with great results.
Having said this I would check out Canon printers as well as they have some great ones as well.

Most of the pros use Epsons. However, that said, Canon has made great strides in coming out with photo printers that are giving Epson a run for their money. A good photo printer is going to cost you anywhere from $500 and up. If you get something for $150, that's the quality you will get. It all depend on what YOU want. If your new at this sport you may want to "ease" into it with the $150.00 Canon.

I've also had good luck with HP until I recently purchased the Photosmart Premium 310. After I edit my pictures in Photoshop and send them to the printer, it just sits there and doesn't print. On a spreadsheet it kicks out twenty pages a minute and that's great, but not so with a program that absorbs a lot of memory. James

My canon printer drinks ink like I have never seen before. I have used HP, Epson, and other brands of photo-printers and do not see another canon in my future. The canon is a couple years old but the HP I bought over 7 years ago outperforms my Canon and uses half the ink. Maybe the top end canon would do better but I am not risking it again. My next printer is Epson. HP updates more than windows. If you want to lose gigs of storage on your hard drive to worthless updates, buy HP.

If you ever win a car or other huge prize in a raffle, be sure to contact me immediately so I can tell you how you can get it over to me. I of course expect you to give it to me for free since it didn't cost you anything.

I've had the Canon Pro9000 Mark II for almost a year now and LOVE IT. The ability to print 13" x 19" comes in handy.

My best printer is the store I have make my prints for me.
I used to use a Canon printer but got tired of continuously buying ink and paper. Turns out I can get prints done cheaper having them printed for me.

To cut out all the messing around trying to get the color right and not having to continously keep changing ink cartridges, I found the "Costco" printer to be the best. They outdo me me in both cost and color fidility.

One of the most important parts of photography is the final printing of the image. This is where you can really see what you have done and I like being in control of the whole process myself.
It just isn't the same when I have someone else make my prints.
I really enjoy the printing process and learning about the different
papers I can use.
