LR 3. Could not print certain files. Got a "missing file" note. None of the suggestions in LR3 help worked. Clicked on ? on slide in Library, and it took me to my hard drive files as they suggested, found some but then what? (One of my problems is that my hard drive files are messed up I Have photos in video, pictures and document files, all linked and deleting one will delete) them all. Really could use some help.

Can you post the exact "missing file" as it appears at the failure notice. From there you can track down a possible fix. How long have you had the "(One of my problems is that my hard drive files are messed up I Have photos in video, pictures and document files, all linked and deleting one will delete) them all". What is your level of computer knowledge, novice, beginner, etc....

I have the same problem with some missing files. I don't know how they got misplaced as I didn't do anything but print them and then they were gone.

I'm wondering if I misunderstood the post. Are we talking missing files as in "your personal file(a .jpg)" or "a system file(a .dll)"

Sometimes when things get so confused, it may pay to go to your local computer geek shop before a crash happens. It's never a good idea to mix file types...documents, videos and photos. I keep each in separate files or folders within files, renamed so I can tell what's in each one.

Whenever you get straightened out, it will be advantageous to get an external hard drive for bulk storage and move all the large files onto it. In fact, it would not be a bad idea to get one anyway and start moving stuff, a 1TB external should give you all the room you need unless you have a LOT of videos, and costs about $100.00. Your operating hard drive will thank you by working more efficiently.

Thanks for the comments all! My disk files are all messed up, as mrgoldwing mentioned. I dont know how videos get into pictures and vice versa. Many are duplicates or even triplicates and ae linked so you don't dare move or delete when I browse from the hedgehog it takes me to an aweful mess on my disk. I'm sure I am responsible for the mess but sure don't know how I did it, or fix it.

PS Wouldn't it be nice if browse took you to LR3 library instead of the hard drive?

Is your problem that the videos, documents and pictures you are concerned about have been stored in the general population on the hard drive. I've never used LR, or any of its other versions, but knowing the general layout of file structure of a computer leads me to believe that your problem is simple to fix, but can take a bit of time depending on your level of "geekness".

Very low level of "Geekeness" unfortunately, and would probably make things worse or lose some. Thanks for the reply.

It can't the LR Catalog isn't a file or folder per se. It's a database containing the location of the various image files on your hard drive. In other words it's just a list of links to the images.
