The tobacco co's made 35 billon in 2012
Smoking kills aprox. 500.000 people a year
A pack of cig's in California is $ 6.45.
so if you smoke 1 pack a day that's $ 2.354.25 year
2 packs a day $ 4.708.50. a year.
Time to Quit ? Just think what you can do with $ 2.354.25 !
or $ 4.708.50. Buy a new Nikon d800.
I had a friend that smoked 4 packs a day. Once he did the math. After he had to file bankruptcy. He quit smoking and managed to get his life back. Think of it in measures of lenses. That's a nice new lens a year. Good luck it's not easy!
They're more like $11.54 over here but I quit 6 months ago because I got sick of having a constant hacking cough and all the other crap associated with smoking. We're lucky enough to have free healthcare here and I took a course of Champix for 2 months, which caused a little nausea but it was so worth it. So to anyone wanting to give up, hope you make it, best of luck.

I quit over thirty years ago, still got the cough and have no idea where the money I spent went. Maybe something to do with having children.
$20 here for a pack of 30
That's an amazing difference.
A long-time smoker who tried quitting several times, my wife had laser acupuncture about ten years ago and has not smoked since. She quit immediately after the quick and painless procedure.
Reason to quit smoking ??
watching loved ones slowly die... Grandparents, Mum, Father In Law etc
all the people who suffered in the past being forced to produce the stuff... and those probably today in low paid jobs producing it still...
i loathe the stupid stuff: it's legalised profiteering from peoples pain and death, still being pushed onto the poorest folks in the world....
I stopped by writing down what I spent each day: at the end of the month I was told to go out and buy something extravagant with the money, which I did, and I had some over. This worked for me: in a year I had c£2,000 extra. At the end of each month I had about £160: this was eight years ago, so today the saving would be nearer £240 per month. I am sure I could get finance to allow me to buy the new canon 200-400/f1.4 ($12,000), and pay it off at c$300 a month. Pay off in max 60 months? Big advantage is you get the lens immediately, and it is free: this should be the incentive to keep off the fags. It might work for some!
I don't smoke... but I don't like being told I can't- and if you want to you should be able to... I wear a helmet on a motorcycle, but I don't like being told I have to. Seatbelts? I don't have any interest in purchasing a big gulp - but making them illegal? They all have better things to do that they aren't.
But the hypocrisy of the obvious importance of tax revenue tobacco generates.. so much so that a whole branch of jack booted law enforcement was created to jealously and vehemently protect it..The ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms). Cross them and you'll go to jail for a long time... they'll let murderers out before you.
Orwellian hypocrites.

Think about this. Lung Cancer is the #1 cancer killer of adults.
Hoping that everyone who tries to quit is successful!!!

Some people who smoke don't get cancer of any kind and some people who never smoked get some kind of cancer...
I got COPD from smoking! I stoped five years ago but it is still going to kill me.
