Both were taken with a 70~300mm zoom set at 300mm and using 48mm of extension tube and a Ray Flash. The top one is just the Ray Flash. In the second one I augmented the Ray Flash with two slave flashes, one on each side.

Thank you! We are all in agreement. The lesson I learned from your comments is if you augment the lighting provided by a circular flash, turn down the power in the circular flash so the shadows are more visible.
