I went to the horse farm over the weekend to capture some images of horses. I was delighted to see the farrier.

A farrier’s sole trade is shoeing and caring for animals. The job requires the skills of a blacksmith, veterinarian, and an animal psychologist all rolled into one.

Hopefully this image captures a fraction of that story.

Shot with a Canon 60D and Canon 28-200mm Zoom at 145mm, at 1/125, f8.0, ISO 100, and no flash.

Nice snappy shot. We've had some fantastic farriers in the past...when you find a good one, ya treat him like a king. It's a tough job. The first thing to go is their back.

Hi Crichmond, you nailed it. Great shot, it captures a moment in the life of a farrier.

Awesome composition.
I would like to know how they get the animal to hold still long enough to finish a re-shoeing.

Thanks for the comment!

The farrier at the horse farm that particular evening was patient, read the horses temperaments, and worked incredibly fast. He seemed to know what the horse would do and when he would do it.

I have a lot of respect for them.
