I call this a Wood Bee. They bore hole in everything to make a nest. They sure keep me busy filling holes and spraying them.:):)

Erv, I think what you have is a hummingbird moth. I could be wrong, maybe.

Great shots of that Wood Bee, Erv. I have been trying to get some WBIF (wood bees in flight) photos for a couple years now. Maybe this year. :D

PS Some call them Carpenter bees. 8-)

Holes, that is unfriendly. I might have been tempted to shoot him with something other than a camera. But then, again, I don't own anything more potent than a camera to shoot with anyway.

I spray the wood and they still make holes.:( I will go out tomorrow and show you one of their holes they make. You will think I drilled it. The are perfectly round.

Not so "cute" .... I got nailed in the palm of my hand from one of those guys once. OUCH! ! They REEEEEly hurt. We were moving 12' 2X6 onto a fork lift when my hand felt like it caught fire. It was in the end of one of the boards and when I grabbed it from the pile I guess I trapped it in the hole so he attacked my hand.

Most folks think they can't sting. I had a few get me building decks for folks. And they do pack a punch.:):)

Only the females can sting, so let them shop when they wish. :|

Supposedly the males are the ones you see buzzing around the holes and trying to intimidate you to move along. The females mainly stay in the nests. Oh, and a sure way to tell is the female bees wear pinks or reds and like necklaces. 8-)
