I know the hoodman loupe is a device used to block any of the suns reflections off the lcd screen so one can view a new image. I have the canon t4i and i was wondering if it is a useful tool? Does it work? I have seen a few people with the loupe hanging from their neck. Thanks!!

Yes, works great. Just be prepared to see the LCD's pixels.

I have a similar item. It is very useful when shooting outdoors as you can see the menus clearly and review shots in addition to using as viewfinder. I have this model: http://www.cowboystudio.com/product_p/meike%20lcd%20viewfinder.htm and use this item to connect it to the cameras without adhesives: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RDEIAO/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What is nice is that you wear the viewfinder on a quick release lanyard so it is always to hand. The actual viewfinder attaches magnetically to the frame. On a T4i you need to have a tripod screw frame or glue a bezel to the camera. I opted for the removable screw on bracket because I don't want to glue stuff to my camera.

There is an alternative...less expensive but not quite as effective. It's the Delkin folding hood. I use one on my P&S. see example at:

Funny you should ask. I've been putting off buying one for a long time and finally, in my frustration, just got one yesterday. Sorry I waited so long....it's fantastic.

The loop is a great boon.
Have the D800, bought a Hoodman CinemaKit to use with shooting video as that can only be done with live View. Turns out I also use it when I'm using Live View for still shots - works great with that also.

howdysmom,
You may like to add a drop of " Super Glue" to the string around the Loop lens.
Otherwise more than likely you will lose your new " Loop"

The Hoodman loope is especially great for viewing the LCD screen in bright sunlighted days. It's strong suit is also it is great for viewing when shooting videos especially when used with their Hood Crane that attaches to the hot shoe and saves you from having to hold the loope in place

I have an aftermarket loope from the UK $27 with shipping. Cant find it to tell you the brand name. I have never felt the need to use it. I rely on my histogram for my nature pictures mainly BIF. Why did I buy it I will soon go broke because I couldn't pass up a good deal.

A Hoodman Loupe is one of those pieces of equipment which at first glance appear to be just another gimmicky thingy bob meant to separate we photographers from yet more of our discretionary income. The reality is that once you use one you discover that it's a pretty nifty little gadget. A bit overpriced, I think, but still worth having.
