Anything made by Merrill....awesomely comfortable!!! For guys and gals.

Me too SeaChelle (great play on words, by the way). I've purchased Merills from Cabelas for years! Wearing these shoes is like dippin' your tired dogs in a cold mountain stream (I live in Colorado...one of my favorite things to do).

Depends on the season, but my closet is full of running shoes. Back in the day, I would run several miles a day. I would recommend a good pair of running shoes. They feel like my own feet. However, I thought everyone in So Cal wore flip flops?

Keen light weight hiker off road and a good athletic walking shoe elsewhere. ;)

David, sorry, but I would like to take exception to your suggestion. I was wearing a pair of Keens when I slipped on a wooden step at Muddy Creek in Maryland. I broke my shoulder.

Yes, accidents can happen to anyone with any product. Later the steel toe in those shoes became crushed in the trunk of my car.

Evidently, Keen has a well deserved reputation. Unfortunately, the manufacture was sent to China. When this occurred, there were a great number of incidents where people unnecessarily slipped. The soles were different than in the American made. From multiple reliable sources, I have been told that Keens are now being made in the U.S. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find them on the web or large local retailers.

There are many good shoes out there and I expect Keen will once again be one of them. For now, it is multiple thumbs down.

I have been looking and I am going to go against the advice of not buying Merrill. Overall, they have a fine reputation and a nice selection. They are in the business to sell fine shoes. If someone objects to them on political grounds - so be it.

My next shoe will be a Merrill Moab. They are comfortable, supportive, quality constructed, available in a wide, waterproof and have a flexible sole. That last one is important to me because I walk around with a heavy backpack for hours at a time.

Asking for help in selection is good, but you have to look, feel and listen to your feet. Sort of like the way they used to teach CPR.

What kind of surface are you walking on? How far are you walking? Are you a big guy or a smaller lighter guy? Do you have any issues with your feet, knees, ankles etc.? Just like photography the choice of good shoe depends on a lot of things other than "this is what I like". A 90 lb woman vs a 200 lb man or an individual with a high arch vs an individual with a flat foot will all find comfort in different shoes...just sayin.

Good point. Personally, I love my Taos.

I agree with SeaChelle. I love my Merrell hiking shoes. The last two pair needed no braking in and were great from the first hike.

I have numerous foot problems including nerve damage, foot and leg cramps, swelling and ball of foot pain. My foot doctor recommended running shoes if going out for the entire day. He says they are made with more technology than other shoes for the comfort of runners. Also he told me that Nike's hurt everybody's feet, Reeboks are made narrower than other shoes in the toe box. Shoes should have good arch support and thick flexible soles.

Sounds like me, I haven't found anything that is comfortable for more than a couple of hours. What do you wear?

Tramsey...not to sound redundant, but go to a store and try on a pair of Merrells...I also have foot problems. Reebok and Nike are names only, and you pay for that with no comfort for long periods....Like another person posted, there is no breaking in Merrells...and believe me, I have tried everything!!

I went to my favorite store, Amazon.com and found them. If Amazon doesn't carry what your looking for, it hasn't been made yet :D

I wear whatever my rigid ankle brace will fit into. Currently wear Drew orthos that are as comfortable as can be expected under the circumstances. BUT, it WILL not keep me from going "hither and yon" for photos!

That's like asking "Is this color good on me?" No one can see your feet, where you walk, how much you weigh, hammer toes, bunions etc etc etc. I suggest going to a "real" shoe store where they still have guys that measure your feet and give you advice. I know they are very hard to find nowadays. Like an ancient artifact. Still, I like my Nikes!

I wear Croc shoes for everything, even dressing up (except in a tux). Sometimes standard slip-ons, sometimes fully-enclosed pull-on shoes, sometimes even hiking tall shoes with strings. Always very light weight, always breathing and not hot inside, always very soft bottomed, always ugly.

Quick on/off loafers are #1, but if I go to the boondocks, hiking shooes, and if I go to the beach, no shoes.
