Hello all,

I've recently added a couple of umbrellas to use with my speedlite flash units (Canon 580 EXII and 420 EX) as well as a backdrop stand few different backdrops.

The photo below is of my lovely better half taken with the two flash units at 45 degrees to the subject. I wanted to see what others thought of this and could I have done anything better.

Other than cropping I have done no post processing at all.

Please let me know what you think as I want to get better at this type of work.

Thanks

Wayne

The highlights on the hair are nice but I find the double catch lights in the eyes distracting. This could be fixed easily in Photoshop. And although your wife is indeed a lovely looking lady, I think removing those small warts and perhaps smoothing out the skin around the eyes would make her even lovelier. These are things you probably don't even notice face to face. But they tend to stand out in a photo.
My first reaction was that the lighting could be more dramatic.. But why? As mentioned, the hair highlight is good, the skin tones are fine. There is no background shadow. What else do you need.

Everything looks good, the double catch lights are what I noticed but are the easiest thing to fix post if you like the rest of it...

I might suggest moving the fill light further back (45° behind model) and knocking it down maybe ±1 stop to offer a more slimming effect.
