It started out great in the morning, and then we got an inch of snow.
Sunshine Through the Trees
I let Zoe do a little hunting after our 3 1/2 mile run
Kramer waits patiently until she is finished with all her foolishness
Yep, had the f/stop set at f/16. Big Snowflakes look like Snowrain
Chicadee shot through poor quality glass window.
These guys were about 15 feet from the window
See the shadow on this guy's beak? Because of Window? or movement?
#1 an excellent exposure taken in difficult circumstances.
#4 1/6 sec is too slow for snow. It's amazing that the trees are as sharp as they are at that shutter speed. You must have a rock-steady grip (or you were frozen solid :) ).
#5 Any photographer would be proud of that shot.
#7 I think you must have caught him mid-warble.

I was using the tripod my friend gave me to use in our porch yesterday. #4 -#7 were taken through the window on a tripod. It is an awful tripod...now I know why MT shooter says to spend money on a tripod. It moves after you tighten it, so you have to guess where it's going to move to in order to get it in the right spot. The head has quit a bit of play in it.

It wasn't a "Pro" tripod by any chance? (I believe JR1 has an opinion about those).

I'm not sure...but it is an old tripod. My point was that this was the reason I was able to make my big fluffy snowflakes look like rain. it's the flowy effect. Don't you love it! Okay, just kidding. I was pretty mad at myself when I saw it. I had the f/stop up way too high to have the shutter speed where I needed it. It's too bad. Learning experience.

It's getting old, isn't it? Our high school golf coach told me he's not a drinking man, but this weather..... I wonder if guys will be drilling holes instead of revving up their boat motors for the MN fishing opener?

Adorable shot of Kramer! When you have a scene that doesn't require quick response, ask yourself what is your priority in this image: depth of field or movement (or lack thereof). Then you can set the appropriate piece of the triangle first (aperture or shutter speed).
What is the latest you recall having snow? July?? :)
A very good set Nightski. I just don't understand about all that snow and how to photograph it. We native Floridians have not been priviledged to see that much snow. I have to watch it on some TV show while sitting in my lounger with the air conditioning on. Love your posts.
