Its some type of lens flare. It starts, and stops within the frame. I have some really good lens cleaner that will leave a film if you are not careful, that looks like what may have happened here.

Or some type of oily residue on the filter, like a good old finger print.

Problem solved, there was a very faint fingerprint on the mount end of the lens.
Agree - narrow spacing of the fingerprint lines causes diffraction grid rainbows.

They apear to me, to be only the lazer or anti-gravity (electro magnetography) rays of a familiar UFO. Or, the familiar rays from an identified hovering object. (IHO). Other than that, I could only imagine lense flair because it apears in the sky as well as through the trees.

I was in our local forest earlier this morning and took a few snaps to keep my hand in. This one suprised me. None of the other images taken today have this "sunbeam" effect, even those taken within minutes of this and in the same orientation, direction and lighting.
My previous encounters with flare manifest themselves as circular orange or red highlights. I have not seen this effect before and wonder if anyone can throw some light on what is happening?

18-55mm Nikkor lens at 30mm, f/16, 1/60th secs. ISO 100. No lens hood but did have an optically clear lens filter in place. Image is straight out of camera.

I have seen this on my photos...took of the UV filter and it went away. Could be the filter.

It looks like there is color shifts like rainbows in the beams. If the light hit your UV filter just right, it may difract and cause a similar effect.
