Im still a little confused over the weekly competition rules where it states that post processing is fine but should be kept to an absolute minimum. It's obvious that many photos have had a lot of pp work done on them, some are hdr pics. My question is, what would you consider minimal pp? As the current rules seem a little unfair on those that obey them......
Kind regards
Kev

Minimum would be a gray area that is left to the interpretation of the participant.
Ansel Adams did a lot of PP so I would say it's in the eye of the beholder.
The photos get voted on and the one that most people like is the winner.
My 2 pennies.

The problem with lax rules on these "contests" is that there is virtually no oversight. PP, HDR, wrong topic, off topic, all these and more are issues here.

Your concerns are exactly the reasons that I do not participate in any way with the "WPC" section. Too many do not follow the rules, but then that happens in so many 'competitions.

I participate more in "displays" which are a lot more open.

Once again...
I started the Weekly Photo Challenges almost a year ago hoping they would be fun and maybe a little different. They were designed as challenges, not contests, as there are no cash or prizes to hand out other than bragging rights. Until recently, to encourage people to participate, the Rules were intentionally left a little lax. Now though, with the 250 Entry Limit and some recent outcries, the rules are being enforced more. I try to listen to posts like this and change the challenges where needed, but ultimately the decision is yours. Choose to participate or don't. As always, I leave it to you.

I agree... My opinion? Let people post process the crap out of their photos, and let the voters decide. Of course, this only works if you have any confidence at all in the voter's ability to decide what they like on their own.

Hey Big Ed, to answer, I would expect most photos to have some level of post processing to them. I shoot RAW so of course my photos need some post processing. What I intended to avoid was wildly 'Photoshopped' photos competing against those who do not know how. In the end, if it is not obvious I have let it go.
I really do appreciate your concern and thank you for your honesty. Steve

You can't make a lousy photo look great, no matter how much post processing you do. You can, on the other hand, post process a great shot right into the waste basket. Your rules say minimal post processing. We can tell if it's over processed; we can show our displeasure for voting for a picture that not only looks good, but obviously follows the rules and guidelines. I'll vote for a good snapshot before I'll vote for an HDR phony. If entrants want to over process, let them. The voters will sort it out and get the message across. When it gets to the point where this isn't true, we'll be in touch.

Of course. I value your opinion and that you spoke out. How else can we see what we cannot? Thank you again and I look forward to seeing you out there. Steve

Spot on, nothing comes off the camera perfect, everything needs a tickle in PP, especially RAW, it's why you shoot RAW, because it's not processed in the camera. You'd end up with a lot of crap on there if it wasn't.
