If you plan to do video as well, the D600 is not quite as good as Nikon's latest cameras, like the D7100, which have a new chip which handles video like Nikon did not tell the manufacturer they were building a stills camera.
That said, I ordered the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera for $995, and can't wait to test my pantheon of 16mm primes, zooms, and superspeeds. The difference is: real 4:2:2 color space, which DSLRs don't have. It makes for much better video, or in my case, independent horror film production.
Nikon Don B. ---- Which kit lens did your's come with? Mine came with the 28-85 mm AF-S Nikkor 1:3.5-4.5G. Mine was a body only order but they automatically threw in a lens and this is what came with it!
Have it and LOVE it!
I have one and love it, I also have the D800 and there isn't a world of difference between them. If you want it, buy it, you'll be happy!
Just to add to all of the positive remarks here I love mine. Moved up from a D90. I had 75,000 clicks + on the D90 so I kept it for the purpose of longer reach when I need it. So happy with the D600. The dust stuff really isn't a problem. I have used the onboard sensor cleaner and have blown it out several times all with great results. But if it does get grungy and most likely it will (the D90 did) I will just wet clean it. Not a big deal at all.
Go get and have fun shooting cause that is what it is all about.

Best bang for the buck in the history uf photography!
I have the D600, am new to DSLR. Can anyone tell me how to get raw images in to Photoshop cs5? I use a pc with an i7 chip. NOT aapl.
I fell off a dock with my D90 into 40 feet of water and it still works! Just sayin'.

Everything I have heard suggests that it is an outstanding camera, (once the oil issue is under control.)
My only concern with the camera is that the weatherproofing may not be as good as the D800 and D4. It is more of a concern if you shoot in crap weather obviously.
Don't get me wrong the D90 is a very nice camera,i have no intentions of giving it up,i hope i never have to see if it is waterproof  Hope i get the same enjoyment from the D600. Still learning how to use it.
Wes, I have the D600, which I bought after my dunk in the lake in November. I LOVE it! There's a lot to learn, so I just learn one or two new things a day. Feel free to throw questions at me. I may not be able to answer them all, but I'm willing to do the research!

Thanks Mormorazz, i may need your help.
I use CS5, but it doesn't recognize NEF/raw files from the D600 -- and it never will. Instead of purchasing CS6 or an expensive monthly subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, you can make lots of changes with ViewNX2, the program on the disc that came with your D600. After making changes in View NX2 (or Capture NX2 if you want an expanded version), click on "convert files" on the top right of your screen, scroll down the list and to change it to a JPG and save it to, say, your desktop. Then "OPEN" it in CS5 and make additional changes as necessary.

I was one who complained long and loud about the spots on the sensor, but everything else about it is great. I purchased the 24-120 , f/4 lens to use with it and that worked out well too. I also use the 16-35, f/4 and that makes for some great photos. I haven't tried the kit lens so I can't comment on that. I also moved up form a D90 to the D600. It was the right choice for me.
