Hi, I am looking into getting a new camera. I have had my Sony for many years and it has been very good to me. My lens is the sony standard zoom lens 18-70mm. Any idea of how much it is worth as of now? Also, My viewfinder is cracked. Do u know how much the repair will be to replace the glass on the viewfinder? I also have a film camera Minolta Maxxum stsi and minolta 28-90 mm lens. Looking to sell all as a package. Does anyone know of any shops that do buy for parts/resale?

Look at KEH, B&H, and Adorama. They all buy/trade used camera gear.

An excellent+ a100 body is selling for around $250 at KEH, so I wouldn't expect much more than $100 out of it, assuming it were complete, undamaged, and everything working correctly, with little outside wear. May cost more than it's worth to get repaired.

I am considering buying a good, used Sony a-series body so I can use my Minolta Maxxum lenses on it. I was disappointed in the value of my two excellent condition Maxxum 35mm bodies...taken together they would hardly pay for the shipping and insurance.

Unless ones camera gear is very top of line, or collectible, it's one of those things which doesn't return much value at resale.

KEH will buy parts cameras, or take them in trade.

Camera won't bring much. I suggest you get a newer Sony and keep the lens. I have about six Minolta film cameras in the Maxim format. along with several older MD/MC types. In general when they come into the auction house I try to get a bid equal to 50% of the used retail price of the lens and throw in the camera as a bonus. One of my Sony (A350 needs a new screen) cost of replacement was almost equal to the cost of a used one. They wanted $300 when I checked. Used A350 (Adorama), right now is $374. In excellent condition an A100 with the18-70 lens, can be purchased for $289. An 500 is under $450.
