Which book(s) have you found to be most helpful for getting the most out of your D800? I'm not a beginner, but I'd like to take advantage of more of it's features such as bracketing, HDR and liveview.

Thanks,
Greg

A camera providing this ,much information really requires a book that will provide just as much information. Take a hard look at David Busch's Nikon D800/D800E. Over 600 pages of info, and well put together!

Thank you. How is it organized?

One wish I should have put in my original post is a book that is organized by task. Personally, I find the owner's manual to be terribly organized. Most of the instructions include references to other pages or chapters of the manual. If you are going to tell me how to do something, please put a few coherent sentences together that fully cover the task.

Scott Kelby uses this technique in some of his instructions and I find it most useful.

Its laid-out in 16 chapters and 4 appendices. Each one is segmented and the index is comprehensive so you can bounce around to exactly where you need to be rather than starting at the front and reading through everything. I agree about the factory manual, its not the best, but it DOES give you the technical details you need, if you can find them.

Appreciate your help. I see it gets very good reviews by Amazon buyers, too. I see he also wrote a compact field guide. Have you ever looked at it?

I have never used anyones "compact field guides", I usually have more than enough gear to pack in the field and never time to sit and read. I would hope to know my gear well enough before I took it into the field to get the job done.

Greg - you might like to take a look at this - http://bythom.com/nikond800guide.htm - written by an American Nikon professional, organised to help people learn, and put together by a pro photographer who uses the camera. His guides and camera and lens reviews have long been respected. It's in ebook format, but as another poster mentions, you want to do all your learning at home and be sufficiently well-equipped "knowledge-wise" not to have to carry a book with you.

Yes, thanks. I've read many of his reviews and "how to" articles. I like his writing style. Not sure I want an E-book tho. Often I do want to take a book with me in the field if I'm just practicing or trying new things.

I find that Darrell's books are up to date and easy to use. I have one for each of my Nikon cameras

I have found Thom Hogan's books just a larger rehash of the manual

If you are a visual learner I have found QuickPro
Training DVD for the Nikon D800 at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=d800+dvd&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search= to be very good and painless. I also use the Darrell Young book.

I'd add another vote for Darrell Young's "Mastering the Nikon D800. I like that he not only tells you what and where the settings are but also why and how they are used and even offers his recommendations along with explanations.
