Oatman, Arizona. Aussies on Route 66. Woohoo...

Drove along an old section of Route 66 from Kingman south to Lake Havasu City. Rough, windy, steep - a real surprise to us. Unexpectedly drove into a little ex-gold mining town called Oatman. Wild burros roaming the street, old gold mines, a lot of history along with the touristy souvenir shops. What a gem.

Wild burros and old mustangs, and hogs! The Wild West! Neat place thanks for sharing. I love the leather shop shot, looking for hand outs are they?

Yes, burros looking for a handout. They are wild, decendants from the gold rush days. They will kick and bite, have to watch them they say though they seem pretty docile.

Thanks for the memories, I used to drive a semi and back in the day that was the route we took to get to California as the interstate was not complete across most of AZ. Had to watch those little towns the ones that dropped you in right off a hill were speed traps, always a smokey sitting with his radar gun trying to fill up the town coffers.

I did, it was the most direct route to California, Peach Springs was the worst, drop down off the hill and always a cop sitting there, the speed limit right at the bottom of the hill was 25 mph and you better not be doing 26, lots of smokey brakes going into that town. I'm originally from England and driving a semi was my way of seeing America. I'm so glad you posted your vacation photos, brings back such good memories for me. Post some more...Please.

We went through Peach Springs. We were lucky with the cops, no trouble at all - though my husband was very careful about sticking to the speed limit.
What a great way to see the States - driving a semi. And so glad you're enjoying my holiday snaps. I was a bit reluctant as they are not exactly perfect in a photography sense, but UHH friends seem to like them. Jude.

Nice set of Oatman here in the black hills we have a lot of Burros/Mules left behind by the Gold Miners and of course the 7th Cav when they came into the hills to explore for (Gold) and map the hill from the inside. Custer State Park has a few Different packs roaming the park that will take your hand outs and just get in your way for the heck of it.

Didn't realize there were so many burros around.
Here in the outback we have a similar thing with camels. Lots of them roaming around apparantly, brought here in the exploring days. It's so remote out there, they are not always seen though.
