We loved exploring 700 year old Pueblo ruins in South West USA. These were just off the road between Flagstaff and Cameron, on the Wupatki Nat. Monument road. Snow tipped Mt. Humphrey in the San Fransiscan Peaks is in the background.

Very interest stuff and wonderful photos. My wife and I were out in that area June 2011 on our way to the Grand Canyon. There's just so much to see...I hope we go back someday. Oh, and I believe Mt. Humphrey is the hightest peak in Arizona. It sure catches your eye.

Yes! When we were driving into Flagstaff from Sedona, my husband nearly ran off the road 'cause I shouted "SNOW". We live in a sub-tropical climate here in Australia, so to see snow was exciting. I couldn't stop looking at it. We had a free campsite in the forest near the base of Mt. Humphrey, lit a fire and admired the view across to the west. At night, a snaking stream of lights on highway 40? maybe 42, can't remember.

That's just crazy cool...your first encounter with real SNOW. You are correct on the highway. It is 40, but it's officially called Interstate 40. Those are the divided 4 lane highways that cross the U.S. It's called Interstate because they go through several states and once on one...you can go anywhere pretty much non-stop...no stop signs or lights on these baby's.

How did you like that drive out of Sedona, Highway 89A, up the several switchbacks? Did you stop at Observation Point, looking back over Sedona? Red Rock/Sedona is one of my favorite destinations.

I am told National Geographic wrote that this is the most beautiful drive in America. Anyway, I sure thought it was. The whole 4-corners area is beautiful- a photographers paradise. :)

We went along the interstate a little way, then turned off to follow Route 66 - a dream come true. More on that later though. Thanks for your interest James.

Yep, it was a great place to visit, and no one else around. we just poked around, and took our time feeling the ghosts of the past - or trying to.
