I am about ready to throw this lens out the window!!! This is my first time using a prime lens and I can't get it. I have tried lens on every setting I can think of and still not getting a decent photo. Can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks in advance!

It is said to be very good lens. But you must focus manually - there is no auto focus from Samyang.

Its one of Samyangs best, but as JPL said, its Fully Manual only. You can shoot it in Manual or Aperture priority for best results, but the manual focus is critical! If you are shooting it at F1.4 especially as your DOF will be only inches at 20 feet distance. F1.4 is nice, but very hard to actually use in a manual focus lens and a small viewfinder. Live view works better if you have it.

Manual focus is effected in three seconds or less almost automatically after a lot of practice. The first lens will be hard. The second manual will be easy. Your eye will jump to that part of the shot that is the sharpest after you have trained it. As you pull the focus front to back within the image your eye will follow the DOF area. Give the lens some time and practice before you give up. I am sure a large percentage of UHH members have more years on manuals than AF and would think twice before buying a lens without a manual option. If you do decide a manual lens is not for you (a perfectly legitimate position), please consider selling it here.
