Can anyone suggest a good compact camera with a decent zoom that also offers wifi. I'm going on a trip this summer and don't want to carry my large heavy camera but also don't want to give up great pictures.
Take a look at Nikon's COOLPIX S950
Hi and welcome Tm4ua. Samsung do a range, you can send pics via e-mail and use a smartphone as a remote viewer/trigger too.
Nokia pureview 808 smartphone has the best phone camera ever made, with good zoom also and wifi and much more. I would buy this rather than a cheap camera.
I suppose that it isn't considered a compact, but my friend's Nikon p510 isn't all that big, has fantastic zoom, is easy to use, and has 16+mp's.

I'm not sure what you consider a decent zoom. I have a Nikon P510
I carry when on horseback or on the ATV and a 42X zoom (no wi fi)
I shot wildlife 90% of the time, it takes good photos and light. I
have laptop in the RV so no need for wifi, when I'm out in the woods there's
no service anyway. What your shooting dictates the zoom you require.
Take a look at the Nikon AW110, 16mp, cmos processor, 5x zoom, 1080HD movies, waterproof to 59 feet, and WI-FI. Small enough to fit in any pocket.
I would suggest the Olympus E-PM2. Kit lens is good high quality and you can get several lens for zoom, wide angle, and pretty much any combination. Excellent for low light. It's not a DSL but certainly a step up from compact point and shoot.

Look at the new canon sx50 and the g15 both get great reviews in DP.

I have a Casio Exilim H10 that I like but doesn't get good reviews compared to others in the same range, I bought it because of good luck with previous Casios and the excellent battery life, 700 to 1000 shots on a battery. One thing I don't like about this camera is the lack of optical zoom during video use, you can zoom before you press the video button and digitally zoom during a video but I seldom use it. Here are a couple of pictures I took yesterday showing the zoom available, I didn't use it all as I didn't need it and it was hand held and windy and cold. I research cameras at Steve's digicam before I buy.

Take a look at the Canon zoom contact SX50 HS. 50X zoom -- 24mm yo 1200. Digital zoom use extends it to 4800mm, but resolution ids degraded with Digital zoom -- but who needs it with 24 to 1200 mm ? Great light sensitivity too.

I use a Lumix LX5 it has a great lens (Leica) and takes really good photos and I can carry it around in my pocket where ever I go. The telephoto seems good. For around £350 it was really good value.
But it is over two years old now and does not have WiFi, but there may be later models, and I suggest Lumix are well worth looking at. I have compared compact camera reviews and certainly the LX5 comes out as one of the best.
Good close ups too!
