Was the issue of the D600 fixed? Is it safe to buy one now? I've holding on this purchase for a while. Any input?

Thanks

It was always safe to buy one. Some D600s accumulated spots on the sensor, but many were fine. It seems that after taking several thousand pictures, the problem goes away. All DSLRs are susceptible to spots on the sensor. A cleaning takes care of that.

As far as your own personal safety is concerned: relax. It's a safe camera.

Don't know. I bought mine D600 in Dec. It has the spots. But it is no big deal, I also have a D200 with dirty sensor and a D80 which I noticed had some new dirt spots 2 weeks ago. My first Dslr D100 also had spots. The only difference with the D600 is that first cleaning is earlier than usual. Everything else about this camera is perfect, people should not avoid this great camera because of this irrelevant extra small problem.

I would ask the same question before investing $2k too.

Bought mine a few months ago and the spots are pretty bad. Not hugely worse than my old D7000 I realise when I look carefully - although that has a LOT more clicks under its belt - but they are a bit more noticeable so I'm assuming oil rather than just dust. I have now discovered that getting hold of sensor cleaning kits here is quite hard as there is a transport restriction on the pure alcohol used - so import is out - and the local 'suppliers' don't appear to have stock despite their websites stating otherwise. Have been let down twice. So I still have not done my first clean. Any day now though I hope.

It's a great camera btw. Spots are spots - they are a nuisance but no more than that.

Oh, please! Don't tell be there is difficulty get alcohol in Australia. I've seen those Foster's commercials.

Seriously, can't you buy the little wiper sticks and then get the alcohol in a pharmacy?

Yes Jerry. It has to be easier than I have found it so far with online suppliers. Have been restricted in my movements but now I'm up and about again I'll be doing pretty we'll what you suggest.

I don't think anyone here drinks Fosters btw. It's brewed in Manchester and mostly sold in UK :-)

Oh, well. I thought it was an Aussie beer. I stay with Guinness.

Hi again Jerry. Fosters is an Aussie 'brand' but now British made. I wondered where your Guinness might be made - presumably locally in NY area? - and found a reference to the fact that Fosters produces Guinness in Australia. So who knows! And of course the more beer I drink the less the spots on the D600 sensor worry me - just to bring this back to the OP's topic!
