If Nikons are so good then why are there so many posts complaining about their problems???
I'm a Canon guy. I have an EOS 5D MK II and arefurbished EOS 7D and have no problems with either of them.

I used to be a Canon guy, now I'm a Nikon guy. I have my reasons obviously. I am happy I switched. I use a D600 and now a D7100 as a companion to it, my D7000 is used by my son and and my old D60 is with my daughter. All working fine, no problems at all. I only use Nikkor lenses on them.
Very pleased. Win some lose some!!
As with all new photo hobbyist it's easier to complain about the camera than to blame yourself for not understanding how it works. You can find complaints about any brand, make or model if you look. If people spent as much time Taking photos, than Talking about taking photos you would have many more great photos on the forum. Photography is hands on. You have to learn your camera and lens combinations and how to get the best photos from them. If your camera will not auto focus in the dark, then don't try to auto focus in the dark. If your photos suck shooting into the sun, then don't shoot into the sun, and the list goes on. My stove will only cook a meal as well as I prepare it, if it taste bad, I don't blame the stove, I blame the Cook.
PS Love my Nikon
It's all about planned obsolescence. You can mount manual Nikon lenses from the '60's on a new pro DSLR and still use them in manual mode. And the optics are still sharp and color corrected lens to lens. Q/Ci sues may happen from time to time but overall the product has been a workhorse since introduced in 1959.
Canon has redesigned their system several times, with no backward compatibility. Other than that it's like the Chevy vs Ford game- they're both good but there are more Ford Police Cruisers on the road than any other make.

Come on now -- Canon and Nikon are both excellent cameras.

To me, it's just a variation of the Chevy/Ford thing.
I'm sure there are many older Guitar players that still can remember the "Gibson / Fender" thing as well.

My nephew is a photo-journalist and uses both. His comment when I asked about preference was that it depends of what hes doing. Both have their strengths and both have their weaknesses. When you hear folks raving about one over the other you should assume theyre ignorant in regard to one or the other and find something better to do with your time.

And young ones. Fender 'tube' amps still popular.
