These Victorian homes known as "Painted Ladies" were built between 1892 and 1896. They are located in the Alamo Park District of San Francisco, Ca. During World Wars I and 2 a number of these homes were painted battleship gray with left over Navy paint. At one point there were over 40,000 of this style of home in the area. Time and earthquakes took there toll. I'm am glad these survived.

I've read they are the most photographed houses in the world. Beautiful shot!

Nicely done. Very sharp and the light is perfect. As for most photographed house...I think the iconic triangular shaped leaning half timbered house in Rotenburg has got to be somewhere on top of the list. Or maybe the flatiron building in New York. (not really a house, though) Thanks for posting a lovely photograph.

I enjoy modern architecture. But...Something has to be said for craftsmanship that was put into such homes. It is a lost art.

You got a very nice, clear shot of one of the most photographed vistas in SF. This is perhaps the best I've seen of this scene. Beautiful! For a different approach, come back and take the same shot when it's foggy.

Thank you. Once in awhile I get lucky. Great idea with the fog. My wife is from San Jose and has family and friends in the area. So we head south quite often. Fog in San Francisco hmm....that shouldn't be hard to find. :-)

If you turn 90 degrees to the left as you are facing them, you will see one of the most missed treasures of The City. It's a Victorian mansion that will stop your breathing!
