Hello uhh out there with the tokina 11 to 16mm 2.8.I have been reasearching ultra wide angle lenses for a while now and am confused.I shoot canon I have a 20d 30d 60d no plans for full frame.I have looked at all brands canon, sigma, tamron, and tokina. From all the reviews the tokina seems to come out on top.I know my way around pretty good when it comes to photography for an amature, but we all need help sometimes. To the members of uhh who I trust and value your opinions would some members please give me your opinions about my dillema on what lens to buy.Sample images from different lenses would help.I travel 3 to 4 times a year and shoot a lot of landscape.please help!

I own the Tokina 11-16, 2.8. It seems to be very sharp, focuses well and has a very convenient manual/auto focus ring that moves forward/back to activate/disable manual mode. Very convenient for us who still selectively manual focus.

Yes, the reviews for it are excellent. It is definitely a 'best buy'. I like its construction and is well detailed. I've had no problems with it.

Hi Al. I just got a 10.5 for my D300s. I have only played around with it a little. Hope to get outside here soon.:) I think on your cameras it will be a 17mm. Which will be a great lens. I also have a 17-55, and the 17 is just not wide enough with the crop factor. It is a 25 on my 300s. But I have a friend I shoot weddings with and he is very happy with the lens.

I have read reviews that the 11-16mm can have variable quality. Personally I do not know one way or the other. I have never used one.
Personally I can vouch for the Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6 EX DC HSM.

It is a very good lens and your cheapest option out of all the candidates.
What do I see as the candidates?
The Tokina 11-16mm
The Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6
The Sigma 10-20mm F/3.5
The Canon 10-22mm

These ultrawides are about the wide end. If you want something good at about 20mm then there are better options out there than all of these.

These lenses are about foreground to horizon sharpness. They are not about how wide the aperture will go. F/8 to F/22 is where these guys do their singing.

I used the Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6 on a Nikon D90. Could not fault it at all. If I could only have 1 lens on an APSC camera, this would be it.
I have included a shot taken into the blown out sun so you can see how it handles it. No flares have been removed from this image.
For me it wins on price and quality and because the filter thread is only 77mm compared to 82mm for the other Sigma.

In all honesty though - you would probably be happy with any of these 4.

I have the Tokina and I love it. My kids gave it to me and I had no idea that I would ever use it. It has become one of my favorite lens'. It is sharp and let's me do all kind of fun things. Most of my lenses are L 's but I wouldn't give up my little Tokina. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

I recently got the Tokina and I really like it. I just haven't had the time to spend a whole day really evaluating it. I took this shot of the entire side of a building from about eight feet away.

I own and have been very pleased with the Tokina AT-X PRO SD 12-24MM F4 (IF) DX VER II. You can see a full review at:

http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/tokina_12-24_4_n15

This lens is dedicated to ASP-C cameras only. Because of this I am going to sell it and have purchased a Canon ef 17-40mm so I can use it on a FF and crop sensor camera. I have had no complaints or problems with this lens and highly recommend it for a crop sensor camera. I know it is not the 11-16 but gives you a little more range and the lens has been upgraded for use on ASP-C cameras, really worth considering.

Sorry but all the photos taken with it are on my back-up drive.

A really great lens, ideal for imaging the aurora.

I love my Tokina 11-16mm. Only problem is that due to it's small zoom range, it is not as flexible as some of the others. But for architectural and broad landscapes it is excellent.
