New Version of IPhoto as part of Illife'11

I purchased my Desk Top Mac several years ago and it came with the standard Iphoto program. I now have an option to upgrade to the new version of IPhoto. With this new feature, the app will tell you what the camera setting of the pictures are. This feature is not in the old program.

I now have a new DSLR and when I dowload the picture, I would like to know what the app, f-stop, and shutter speed was set at.

Any one have experience with the new version of Iphoto? The App reviews given aren't that positive. Or, does any one know of an app or program that would tell me what settings my pictures were taken at?

I use iPhoto 11 version 9.4.2. I'm curious what the less than positive reviewers are saying.... I do 90% of my PP using iPhoto. I am thinking of adding Aperture 3....

The negative reviews are on the review of the app- but they only go through Nov 12. There has been nothing recent. Thanks for your help!

I may be using something older and I am not a "sophisticated" digital editor. Mostly, I use iPhoto to download/store images-- and it does store the information you mentioned: iso, lens used, aperture, shutter duration, etc. The editing I do is usually: crop/re-size, sharpen, and adjust shadow and highlight levels.

What a nice forum I have found and thanks for the replies! I"m not a sophisticated editor either- and I also use the basic IPhoto- but the one that came with my MAC must be an older version as the iso, aperture, shutter speed is not on there- but the upgrade IPhoto 11 does. This may what you have. Both posts have been positive, so I'll probably go with it. Thank you both!

Guess what? You don't need the upgrade for that info. Just open an image in Preview, go to the Tools menu and click on Show Inspector. This will open a small window where you can see everything you'd like to know. The upgrade may be worth the money for other reasons, but isn't necessary for this.

I tried this, I get the window, but the only info is the file size and pixel size. I think that this info is only included with the upgrade to IPhoto 11. It's not an expensive program- I just want to make sure I'm not sorry and then wish I had the old one back.
Thank you so much!

Make sure you are on the right tab. See the attached example. You may have been on the "General" tab.

I upgraded iPhoto when I installed Aperature and they work seamlessly together. I'm rather new at this but I love having both of them. I am just starting to shoot raw and experiment with the tools in Aperature, before that I just used iPhoto for cropping and color adjustments and fixing blemishes. Even fixed dark circles under eyes and those frown lines between eyebrows. You won't be sorry if you upgrade.

On your main menu bar, click on the Apple. The second (?) option is "Software Updates" which will search all Apple software and most other software for uninstalled updates. Choose the ones to update or click "Update All" and you should get the latest version of (among others) iPhoto. I do this EVERY TIME I boot up my Mac.
