My name is Scott. I have been reading and learning many new things here. Enjoy taking photos and want to improve. Thank you to all for sharing your skills. Trying to learn to take portraits. Please critique, advice, etc. I have a three year old cannon rebel xt with the lens kit it came with. I will upgrade as my skills increase. The hog can be additive.

Some of them are very nice. Just watch the lighting, It's easy to wash a person out. Better to underexpose then over expose.

and welcome to the Hog. It's nice to have ya.

Welcome to the forum. It is addicting. The photos are very creative, good try. The eyes seem to be clear which is important and not dull. Cheryl

I don't do portraits but do feel I have a little to offer in the way of advice. They are all nicely posed and have great focus. You got such terrific focus on the eyes! Nicely done. The first and third have a green cast which can be corrected with white balance when shooting or with a photo editing program after. They pretty much all lack depth (the face especially has a 'flat' look with loss of contours which I think is primarily caused by slight over exposure. Hope you don't mind but I did edit one to show you what a darker exposure can do for this. I fixed it with PSE9 by darkening the highlights. Some show some cracking on the lips. Others who co portraits can help you with avoiding this. I once heard that applying vaseline will prevent that but since I don't do portraits I have never tried that. I don't know if she actually has such porcelain color skin. Mine does darken her color and the highlights could be darkened less if needed but that will decrease the contouring on her face. I her color is that fair, maybe it is a lighting problem and others with portrait experience may be able to help you with that.

I agree with everyone else; I love the poses, the subject is very atractive. Nicely done. There are a couple of the pics that the lips need a little work, either before the pics are taken or in PS. Great pics.

Welcome to the forum... I agree its quite addicting.
I had to repair her eyes in the one photo.... they were terribly distracting. I took her eyes from another shot of yours and overlaid them. Hope you don't mind.
