Passing through? Shame.
So much to see in STA.
Sunset/Sunrise, almost anyplace along the shore will do.

The old town both during the day and at night are good areas to shoot, the fort, go on a ghost walk, learn interesting things and get some interesting shots. Some very nice cemetaries too.

Absolutely go to the Rookery at the Alligator Farm! It is unbelievable! Without a doubt there must be over one thousand nests of mating birds, birds and their chicks, nest building etc.! I took photos of Wood Storks, Cattle Egrets, Ibis', Blue Herons, Green Herons, Roseated Spoonbills, and more! And, there are alligators!

You can purchase a photogaphers pass that allows you in 1 hour before the general public and you can stay after closing (about $100). I went early am and then again in the evening. Using the daytime to do the touring!

Sunrise a visit to the light house. There are piers that you can walk out on to get shots looking back at the light house! Lions Gate bridge is a great photo opportunity.

I always suggest a trolley/bus tour around town. You get the history and an opportunity to go back and see the sights that interested you without roaming (wasting preceious vaca time) on your own.

St Augustine is a charming little city. Enjoy!

I was in St. Augustine last week - DEFINITELY go to the Alligator Farm if you want to photograph birds! Hundreds of egrets, spoonbills and more! There were a couple of egrets with chicks in the nest and a spoonbill with young uns too!! I posted a few pics on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/MeredithImages -- haven't downloaded yet to the main computer! We spent 2 days in St. Augustine then stayed in Titusville and went to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge for more birding! Took an AWESOME airboat ride on the river with Ray's Airboat Rides -- highly recommended -- birds including eagles -- alligators gallore!

Thank you Meredith! Great information. I have the AF on the list and my love of the ocean and all things H2O i really want a sunrise with the lighthouse. Now your idea of the Merritt Island has merit! Pun intended!

Thanks to all. Any specific locations for Sunday after a sunrise shoot on the way back to Charleston, SC would be awesome!

Heading to Charleston (which is picturesque itself), detour to Savannah (tons of great architecture), or to Tybee Island (Fort Pulaski National Monument, beaches, great food - go to AJ's Dockside). We made a detour to this restaurant on our way back from Florida to our stop for the night at a friend's in North Carolina!! Get the boiled shrimp!!!! YUMMM!!!

Glad you like the website - thanks for the kudos. Need to get some new stuff posted!
