Canon ET-138 WII - Lens hood

In another topic someone mentioned the cost of this lens hood is about $600. Thinking it must be a typo I searched the net and found prices varied between £460 - £700 ($690 - $1050).

Can anybody tell me why the price is so high and what is so special about these?

I'm not looking to buy, just to understand the price.

If you look at the ad you will normally find they are OUT of stock and just put in a high sum so that people will see that and question it, as a "sum" has to be entered into their stock control program, see, simple

Thanks for that; I'm now looking for empty cola cans, some white and black paint and a screw thread device. Keep watching Ebay for my half price hoods!

Black paint in a can will give you some very peculiar pictures.
The lens hood I have for my 300 has a lining inside designed to catch light and keep it from reflecting into the lens.
Why it would cost me $600 to replace it is beyond me. That's why I have it insured with no deductible.
