Thanks,
With care. I had two of these cameras, and it was never an issue. Some like the lock on the D7100 (and D600), and some don't. I don't.
Don't touch it. I try to look at it before I take a shot, but I have taken a lot of shots in the wrong mode. You can also buy a D-7100 or D-800. I bought a D-800.
The lack of a lock was the only real complaint I ever had with the D7000, it was way too easy for anything to move the dial a click or two, and if you weren't paying attention even the strap would move it as you swung it up to shoot causing you to usually lose a few quick shots. The D600 uses the same dial selector but adds a lock button to the center of it, a priceless upgrade in my opinion. The D7100 repeats the D600's lock-out button and was welcomed by D7000 owners with much fanfare. The only problem is that Nikon has yet to offer the upgrade to D7000 owners, which I would expect MOST of them to have done, I know I would if I still shot the D7000!
MT I agree. I love to have an up-grade. Last Saturday I bumped the dial twice, did not lose shot, but had to do some series photoshopping LOL. I love my D7000. I have a D600 order, supposed to be delieved Thursday. Can't wait to get it. I now have "U2" setting the same as my "Manual" setting. Thanks ! !
I've had the D7000 since they came out and I've never had a problem with the mode dial moving when I didn't want it too.

I haven't had mine all that long, but I have yet to have a problem with it.
I'm always changing my shooting mode, so I look before I click. I will say the D800 is a better design for knowing the mode.

That is a big problem, look before you shoot, I also put a piece of heat shrink tubing around the dial (Recommendation on NIKONIANS Website) and it helps because the little knobs on the dial are less likely to be turned by hitting them taking the camera out of the camera bag, by camera strap etc.

It's a bummer that Nikon doesn't offer an upgraded locking button for this body. Canon started doing offering a locking button well over a year ago to people with the same problem with their 7D. It's about $99 for the upgraded locking button. I've yet to do it but because I rarely bump it but when I do, it usually moves to Bulb and it really freaks me out when that happens.
Been a thorn in my side also. Easily bumped. In the Habit of checking it occasionally.
Never ever had a problem on my D7000. My dial was either stiff or I'm more careful. Just bought a D600 and HATE that stupid lock button! Trade it in a minute for the D7000 type. To each his own. Now need an extra hand just to turn a little simple dial.

Yes, that button does take some getting used to, but in time it will become second nature.
