I felt so sorry for this birdie

I saw this Eurasian Collared Dove today and noticed something wrong with his eye. I wondered if maybe a hawk had tried to get him, but he escaped.

It looks like most of his eyeball is gone. He must be hurting. :-(

When I first saw him he was up in a tree and I tried to get some shots, but he was a bit too far away. I kept my eye on him and a while later he came down to sit on the fence right in front of me so I was able to get some better (and closer shots).

The ones I took while he was in the tree, were not. As I still couldn't quite see what was going on with that eye.

On the fence, much, much better.

Around here those are the main food for Hawks. I guess because they can't move as fast as the other birds. Sad to see one hurt. Very sharp shots tho!

Thank you Erv and appreciate your response. :-)

The few times I've seen a hawk swoop down around here, it's usually the ECDove he's after too.

Great shots Joyfullee, nice detail. unfortunately they are good prey for hawks, good thing is they can survive with one eye. Broken legs and wings can be a disaster.

Good pics! Hawk? I am going to say a BB gun in the hands of someone who needs to not be allowed to reproduce.
